VICTORIA MOZALEVSKAYA TRIO feat. DIMITRI HOWALD

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Victoria Mozalevskaya Trio. Over the years, the trio has been a project close to my heart, one in which I have realized my musical ideas on the theme of "freedom" within the context of contemporary jazz. This freedom, which I have been able to take to a new, inspiring level through deeper self-knowledge over the years.

NEW: The trio is playing its anniversary program with a “rising star” from Bern: Dimitri Howald !

Victoria, Thomas, and Pius played together for the first time at the Langnau Jazz Nights in 2013. Afterward, the decision was quickly made to form a trio that could also be enjoyed by a larger audience.
And now the time has come: the Victoria Mozalevskaya Trio is celebrating its 10th anniversary.

From the very beginning of their collaboration, the trio set out to harmonize high complexity, catchy melodies, and driving rhythms within contemporary jazz. The central idea is freedom. Freedom that can be taken to a new, inspiring level through deeper self-knowledge over the years. The freedom of the soul in "Anahata," the freedom of love in "My Ballad," and the versatility of freedom in the two-part "Freedom To Be You" suite. Victoria's greatest role model—ever since she began playing jazz—has been Wayne Shorter, whose influences can be repeatedly recognized in the melodic development of Victoria's playing.

Last year, Victoria discovered Dimitri Howald as a like-minded person who enriches the formation and therefore complements the trio with the guitar in this year's program.

"Freedom to Be You" is a manifesto for freedom, the expression of energy and emotions, and a call for freedom beyond the boundaries of culture, society, or religion. "Freedom is also a women's issue—my central piece, "Freedom to Be You," is about the freedom to express oneself."

"All 8 tracks definitely have a raw, authentic sound... Each band member has equal importance and opportunity to express their personal feelings on the inflammatory theme of "freedom" on their instrument."
